Hello Kitty Maternity Hospital

This is not a joke.  With Sanrio celebrating its 50th-Anniversary this year, you may have noticed a Hello Kitty licensing bonanza – but a hospital?  Authorized by Sanrio, the 30-bed maternity hospital is in central Taiwan and was created in hopes of easing the stress of childbirth.  I’m not sure anything could ease the stress of childbirth but Hello Kitty will definitely make the whole process a lot cuter!

Not limited to just room decor, Hello Kitty’s (and Hello Daniel for boys) likeness appears on bed linens, receiving blankets, nurses uniforms and even birth certificate covers.  In the lobby, a Hello Kitty statue in a doctor’s uniform greets patients and visitors as they come in.  Director Tsai Tsung-chi stated:

I wish that everyone who comes here, mothers who suffer while giving birth and children who suffer from an illness, can get medical care while seeing these kitties and bring a smile to their faces, helping forget about discomfort and recover faster.

As a huge fan of Hello Kitty, I don’t think I could get tired of seeing her image plastered on everything. I wish we had a Hello Kitty maternity hospital in the U.S. If it takes an stress away from the experience of childbirth then the more the merrier!
