Lanvin Will Introduce Kids’ Collection

Lanvin Childrens collection

A sketch by Jeanne Lanvin from 1929

At the start of her career, Jeanne Lanvin created beautiful clothing for mothers and daughters alike.  In fact, the original Lanvin emblem depicted a mother and daughter.  Staying true to the brand’s heritage, Alber Elbaz will be designing a 25-piece line to re-introduce the brand into childrenswear.

The line will be for girls aged 4-10-years old and Elbaz is taking a ““superluxury approach.”Lanvin’s executive vice president Thierry Andretta explained:  “It’s a way to translate the universe of Lanvin ready-to-wear to the world of kids.”  (WWDLanvin Set to Roll Out Kids’ Line, 05.04.11).  The children’s collection will include dresses, T-shirts, coats, sweaters and accessories and will be introduced along with the resort collection in June.  Andretta stressed that  “We really want to stay in the luxury world,” and Elbaz will be using ultraluxurious fabrics that are up to 10-times the cost of fabrics normally used for kids clothing (ie, the stuff my kid wears).

Distribution will be kept limited – to very fancy boutiques and department stores I imagine.  I can guarantee that I won’t be able to afford this line, but I will be drooling over it!  I can’t wait to see it!
