Nothing says summer like a glass of fresh lemonade. Maybe it’s because as a kid every summer I would set up a lemonade stand in my front yard. Making lemonade and setting up a lemonade stand is a good old fashioned fun summertime activity that is fun and keeps the kids busy. Here’s a lemonade recipe that both kids and adults will enjoy.
Actually, I love lemonade all year long but it tastes more delicious in the summer for some reason. I’m very particular about my lemonade – I only drink the freshly made variety. (Except when I was a kid I drank the powder variety until my sister made me a glass that was literally neon yellow). Like everything, I like my lemonade sweet. Not like candy, but close to candy. I have a quick recipe for fresh lemonade, the most time consuming part of this is squeezing the lemons. Whether or not life gives you lemons, make lemonade
Fresh Lemonade Ingredients
1 Cup Fresh Lemon Juice (depending on the size and juiciness of the lemons between 3 and 7 lemons)
1 Cup of Ice
1 Cup of Sugar
4 Cups of Water
1. Put sugar, lemon juice, ice and 1 cup of water in a blender and blend.
2. Pour the mixture in a pitcher, add the remaining 3 cups of water and stir.
The scientific community has confirmed what parents have known all along – whining is the most annoying sound ever. Really? You needed a study to confirm this? Apparently, as compared to other annoying noises, when study participants tried to do math while listening to whining they got it all wrong. It’s a good thing I’m not sitting here trying to do calculus. Time states:
The results? Whining tripped up subjects with their subtraction more than any other sound. “You’re basically doing less work and doing it worse when you’re listening to the whines,” said study co-author Rosemarie Sokol Chang, a professor of psychology at SUNY New Paltz. “It doesn’t matter if you’re a man or a woman, everybody’s equally distracted.”
All kidding aside, there’s probably a strong evolutionary reason for this. If our kids are whining, we need to see if everything is ok. The problem is that kids whine about EVERYTHING – not just a potential danger.
Ad agency Cramer-Krasselt has created the With Your Child campaign for COA Youth and Family Centers to promote sharing and learning between parents and children. The campaign includes installations of puzzles and games in the streets of Milwaukee. These installations look like fun ways to teach kids and they serve as a great reminder that learning starts at home with parents. I hope they spread across the nation and are just not limited to Milwaukee.
My good friend just got back from Hawaii and brought back the Tiny Dancer three of the cutest Hello Kitty dolls I’ve ever seen. Allow me to introduce you to Hawaiian Hello Kitty – and yes, her tan is way better than yours!
I never thought I would enjoy grocery shopping as much as I do now. Between the Farmer’s Market and Whole Foods, grocery shopping is almost as good as shoe shopping – almost. This past weekend the Tiny Dancer and I made a quick stop at Whole Foods and any reason leaving the house is a good reason to wear something cute. Here, we present a casual, fun weekend look…

Back in May Missoni teamed up with Bugaboo to create the most fashionable strollers I’ve ever seen. Perhaps it was their way of getting the market ready for what they were going to launch next – Missoni Baby. Designer baby clothing has been around for a while but it’s reaching a fever pitch lately with recent children’s wear launches from Stella McCartney, Lanvin, Versace and now, Missoni. The famous zigzag knits will be shrunken down for little girls featuring bikinis and sundresses.
I have to confess I’ve never really been a fan of Missoni – I just don’t like the mulitcolor zig zag – it’s a bit bohemian for my taste. The Bugaboo prints they did happen to be my favorite Missoni product I’ve ever seen. I think it’s because on the Bugaboo strollers, the Missoni prints were more graphic and bold. Nonetheless, if you shrink anything down to child size it always ends up looking cuter and I imagine the same will be true for Missoni Baby. The new line launches for Spring 2012.
